Celebrating 60 Years of Lamborghini's First Masterpiece: The 350 GT
March 18, 2024 - Lamborghini, the iconic Italian car manufacturer, commemorates the 60th anniversary of its inaugural car, the 350 GT, a symbol of automotive innovation and luxury. Unveiled in March 1964 at the Geneva auto show, the 350 GT set the stage for Lamborghini's distinguished legacy in the high-performance car sector.
The Birth of a Legend
The 350 GT was born out of a dispute between Ferruccio Lamborghini and Enzo Ferrari, leading to the creation of a vehicle that would compete with the best in the sports car industry. With its debut in 1964, Lamborghini established itself as a formidable challenger to established brands.
Design and Performance
Designed by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera and featuring a chassis developed by Giampaolo Dallara, the 350 GT boasted an aluminum body and a 3.5-liter V-12 engine developed by Giotto Bizzarrini. This engine, characterized by a four-cam design and a 7,000-rpm redline, exemplified Lamborghini's commitment to performance.
A Legacy Preserved
The first model off the production line, finished in green with a white interior, was displayed at its Geneva debut and later used for endurance testing before being destroyed. However, the second 350 GT built, a silver model with a red interior, now stands as the oldest production Lamborghini, preserving the legacy of this groundbreaking model.
As we look back on the 60 years since the 350 GT's debut, Lamborghini's journey from a bold vision to a global symbol of luxury and performance cars is a testament to the enduring legacy of its founder, Ferruccio Lamborghini.
